Marcy

Marcy Schafler, is the owner of Mind Over Movement, a Pilates Studio in Madison, NJ Her career as a Pilates instructor began at the ripe young age of 45. Pilates training began at Movements Afoot in New York City. There she trained with Doris Pasteleur Hall (Carola Trier trained) and Lesley Powell and was certified through PhysicalMind. In 2008, Marcy became faculty for Balanced Body teaching students to become Pilates Instructors. Shortly after that Marcy decided to do Balanced Body’s program Passing the Torch with Elizabeth Larkam. Balanced Body requested her to do become Faculty for Anatomy in Three Dimensions. A hands on approach to anatomy. In 2008, Marcy became a PMA Certified Pilates Instructor. Recently Marcy has added to her workshop teachings as she is a CoreAlign Master Instructor as well as a teacher for MOTR and the Franklin Method. Marcy has recently had the opportunity to present at Pilates on Tour in London and NYC. In 2006, Marcy participated as an instructor in a study led by Urogynecologist, Dr. Patrick Culligan, of the Atlantic Healthcare System on the rehabilitation and support of the pelvic floor. Marcy is a cancer surthriver (her own coinage). Surviving both uterine and breast cancer. Pilates has had a huge an impact on her ability to come through the challenges of surgery, radiation and rehab. Continuing education is such an important part of our growth and often gets overlooked when we are teaching for awhile. I love working with and taking other instructors workshops. There is always something new to learn. Whatever Marcy teaches, she is always looking to enhance movements of her clients and students so they can improve the quality of their lives. This can be by getting in better shape, getting stronger, improve sports performance (Marcy has worked with NFL Jets) or to living pain free.

Marcy instructs the following:
  • Mat with Props - Mixed Level
  • This is where it all starts! The mat is the core of the Pilates method. The "Pilates Method" is an exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve overall health. The Pilates Method includes exercises for every part of the body and applications for every kind of activity resulting in longer, leaner muscles.
The objective is a coordination of mind, body, and spirit--something Joseph Pilates called "contrology."

Mixed level group classes are appropriate for those with some prior Pilates experience and no injuries. You will be taking classes with others that have a variety of Pilates experience and variations will be taught for each level. A wide range of props are used in this class to enhance and deepen your movement experience.

    Inspiring and invigorating!

  • Reformer - Mixed Level
  • The Reformer is the most versatile piece of equipment developed by Joseph Pilates. Using a simple wooden frame, a movable carriage, springs, a footbar, and adjustable arm and foot loops, Joe invented an exercise machine that addresses virtually every part of the body! From leg presses, to abdominals, to arms, to standing work, Joe developed progressive exercises that can be used with clients of all kinds from the novice to the super fit.

Mixed level group classes are appropriate for those with some prior Pilates experience and no injuries. You will be taking classes with others that have a variety of Pilates experience and variations will be taught for each level. Our intimate setting allows you to learn the exercises with mindfulness.

    Illuminate the Mind
    Empower the Body!

5 students maximum to one instructor enables personal attention for each student.

Prerequisite: Reformer experience at our studio!

  • Mixed Equipment - Mixed Level
  • Each week the instructor will create a class based on who is signed in and how many people are enrolled.  Be surprised each week which piece of equipment you might workout on.

  • Mind Over Mat - Mixed Level
  • Illuminate the Mind; Empower the Body

In this class, we begin by observing where we start.  This gives us an opportunity to improve our alignment and form in movement to get the most out of each exercise. With this awareness, you will learn how to get deep core conditioning for strength, flexibility and tone. Focusing on joint mobility to increase body awareness and release tension, your practice will be more balanced and with more flow.
